PROJECT DETAILS

Client:  Cardiff County Council
Contractor:  Kier Workplace Services
Location:  Cardiff
Contract Value: £122,000
Duration:  7 months

Ton Yr Ywen is a primary school located in Heath in Northern Cardiff and was established in 1952.

This was a M&E refurbishment of the kitchen and communal areas that was completed in March 2017. The aim of the project was to:

1) Completely remodelling the serving area so the children have much more space to move around in and the kitchen staff can display the food more effectively.
2) Fitting new flooring, ceiling and energy efficient lights.
3) Redecorating all areas of the kitchen.
4) Fitting new kitchen units and equipment.
Kier Workplaces Services headed up the refurbishment and appointed Tremorfa to carry out all electrical and mechanical works. This included, mains distribution, installation of cables, socket outlets, isolators and fused spur units. Tremorfa also installed LED luminaires, presence detectors and wall switches. Wiring to all the fans within the kitchen were also installed and the fire alarm system extended to the new layout comprising of smoke detectors, sounders and manual call points. The project was ongoing through term time, meaning extra sensitivity was required by all engineers who attended site. Tremorfa ensured all engineers kept to the time frames specified and could minimise disruption to the children’s normal routine as little as possible and get the operational running of the school better than it had been initially.
